Grey Lucas is an independent investigative journalist based in Chicago, Illinois, who has reported on housing, local government and police accountability for news outlets like Illinois Answers Project, South Side Weekly, The Chicago Reporter and Vail Daily. They studied journalism and political science at Butler University and, more recently, earned their master’s degree in investigative journalism at Northwestern University. They are based in Chicago and currently finishing up a project for the Pulitzer Center.
When police use force in the San Juan and Arecibo regions of Puerto Rico, about a quarter of the time they use it against people suffering a mental health crisis, according to an analysis by the Center for Investigative Journalism. In more than half of these cases, officers discharged their Tasers, which can cause serious harm.
