Nargis Rahman

Nargis Hakim Rahman is an award-winning Bangladeshi American Muslim journalist and writer. Nargis is a reporter and producer for WDET 101.9 FM. Her work has appeared in Huffington Post, NPR, YES Magazine!, Haute Hijab, Tostada Magazine, Eater, Model D, Detroiter Magazine, The Muslim Observer, Brown Girl Magazine, Metro Detroit Mommy, and more.

Nargis is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association, Michigan chapter. She graduated from Wayne State with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism and a psychology minor. She is a former fellow for The South Asian American Digital Archive Archival Creators fellowship, where she documented 10 oral histories of Detroit’s Bangladeshi women entrepreneurs. She has also been a fellow in the Journalists in Aging Fellows Program by the The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) and the Journalists Network on Generations for the 2020-2021 cohort, as well as a food journalism fellow for Feet in 2 Worlds/WDET 101.9 FM, where she wrote about how Bangladeshi immigrants found a way to build community around a local restaurant. She is based in the Great Detroit area and is passionate about community journalism.
