The author of Hungry for Change and Farmsteads of the California Coast, she has covered food culture—including its impact on human and environmental health—for many years. She also writes about arts and culture and health care innovations, including those in the mental health field. Her articles have appeared in The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times Magazine, San Francisco Chronicle, and The Atlantic, among other outlets. She has worked for the Center for Investigative Reporting and Time Inc. Health. and recently won a first-place award for her arts and culture coverage from the San Francisco Press Club.
