Our own Dr. Tom Insel, former director of the National Institute of Mental Health, author of the new book Healing, and a cofounder of MindSite News, was interviewed last night by Judy Woodruff on PBS New Hour. You can watch the episode here.

Insel: If we really care about mental health, it’s about more than mental health care. We have to think beyond health care. We have to think about what I call the three Ps – people, place and purpose. How we help people with these disorders actually build a life. It’s not about which medication you’re on, or what psychotherapy you’re getting. Of course, you need the medical care, but you also need the social supports, you need a safe place to recover, you need all of those services that give you something to live for…We need a social movement for mental health.
